About Me

Hi, my name is Tyra Butler, M.A., and I'm a therapist with offices in Newport Beach and Norco, serving parts of Orange County and the Inland Empire.

I will work compassionately with you to help you experience a more fulfilling life. I have extensive experience working with individuals and couples who are dealing with issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship and family problems, the effects of trauma and abuse, dissociation, and addictions and recovery (alcohol, drug, food, eating disorders and sex addictions). I also work with people who do not know what the issue is exactly, but they know something isn't quite right, and they want better relationships and to feel better. Additionally, some people want to work on their character, or personality, recognizing that some of the discomfort in their lives stems from issues related to the way they experience people and the world around them.

What Can I Do for You?
I can help you feel better and move forward in your life in positive ways. You may have made changes in your life hoping it would solve the problem, but it did not reach something deeper inside that seems to get in the way of you being the person you want to be and having the life you were meant to have.

Whether your desire is to be able to have a satisfying relationship, alleviate anxiety, become free from depression, recover from past trauma, overcome an addiction, or other life problem, many people come to me to remove the barriers in their lives so they can live more freely and find their way toward healthy living.

Credentials
For those interested in credentials and degrees, I am a licensed therapist, MFT, and I have completed a year of doctoral education in Clinical Psychology. I hold a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Hope International University. I've also earned certifies in psychodynamic psychotherapy and EMDR.

Furthermore, my life experiences, career path, and volunteer experiences have contributed to my ability to deeply understand a variety of issues and experiences, and to work well with a diverse group of people, from a variety of cultures, religions and backgrounds.

About Counseling/Therapy

I have been a part of many people resolving interpersonal issues, overcoming areas of life they were stuck in, and learning healthy approaches to current life challenges.  The main approach I take is relational in nature, identifying what the issues are, and helping you to work through it, in a sensitive, supportive and caring way, so you can make the changes you want in yourself, and your relationships. Whether it is a relationship, job, life decision, depression, anxiety, trauma, etc., it's important to look at oneself and what is at stake because staying stuck can take your life down a wrong path and waste so much time.

I utilize a variety of approaches, based on what will be most beneficial to you. One of my integrative approaches includes EMDR, which is a highly effective approach to process trauma and difficult life experiences. EMDR therapy is an evidence-based treatment for anxiety, trauma, chronic pain, depression and performance enhancement, and if applicable, I can utilize this approach if you wish.
