Put simply, the scary, difficult (emotional or otherwise), distressful and hurtful stuff in life is what stress is made of. And highly stressful events are what we call trauma (trauma can be relational or events that happen).

Often, people believe that trauma always pertains to war or something horrific. While those events are definitely traumatic, there are other life events that can have a similar effect. Or experiences that have happened to us over a course of time which when accumulated, leave a lasting, sometimes devastating effect on us.

Verbal, emotional, physical or sexual abuse; betrayal, abandonment, being a victim of a distressing event, medical issues, losing a loved one, losing a job, drug and alcohol addiction, eating disorders, natural disasters, and car accidents are some examples of traumatic events, or also what we'd consider very difficult life circumstances.

People respond to these types of trauma, or stressful life experiences, in different ways based on temperament; anxiety, depression, mood swings, self-destructive behavior, flashbacks, numbness and phobias are a few examples. But there is hope! You don't have to live stuck in that anymore; there is a way to resolve that and start feeling better.

I utilize the approach that will be best for you. Whether it is getting at the root issues from the past or talking through the current struggles in a way that can bring healing and change in the here and now, my compassion, intuition and training guide me to lead you toward a more satisfying life.

EMDR is simply an approach to process life's distressing and upsetting experiences. To alleviate any concerns about how it sounds, it is not hypnosis.  It simply facilitates the mind's natural processing in a more effective manner, in order to digest, and fully process, the painful and hurtful stuff in your life. It prevents the past from affecting you in the present, and allows you to heal from negative messages and memories. What's also great about it is that it enables you to process more effectively and quickly, so something that may typically take months to work through can be accelerated significantly.

This type of therapy is a much easier and less painful process than traditional therapy for resolving stress and trauma. The resolution takes place much quicker too. Many people experience a significant reduction in distress and an increase in self-esteem in just a few sessions. And, that's just the beginning.
